Meet Christina

Hi! I'm Christina Dunbar, a wife, mom of 3, healthcare professional, and Charlotte, NC native (we are rare, I know!). A coffee nerd and scientist by day, I turn into an artist and jewelry designer at night!

I started making clay earrings in 2023 as both a form of therapy for my depression and anxiety and an arts and crafts hobby with my twin daughters. Now I have a fun side business creating custom clay jewelry for you all!

Thanks for coming to my website. I look forward to making something special for you.

xx,

Christina

Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs

What inspired you to start making jewelry?

I've always loved earrings! I never leave the house without them on (or feel completed n*ked if I do), but I never saw myself designing any...

But when our girls received a box of scultpting clay for Christmas last year, I got the idea to make a few earrings with them! They were NOT pretty earrings, but the experience motivated me to learn more. So with the help of YouTube videos and Instagram reels, I slowly found myself engrossed in the hobby of polymer clay jewelry!

I love this art as a form of therapy, an activity I can do with my family, and a way to connect with others with custom designs!

What materials do you use?

I primarily work with Sculpey Primo polymer clay and Sculpey Liquid (Polymer) Clay for most items. This is jewelry grade clay and not a soft play and sculpt clay.

All backs/metal findings and posts are made from hypoallergenic, nickel free material. I cover all posts with clay for durability, which also lessens risk of sensitivity for anyone with metal skin allergies.

I do NOT work with resin. While it is a fascinating and beautiful medium, I prefer to avoid the possible toxicities from it. Any shiny effects you see in my work is from gloss polymer varnish, usually Mont Marte Gloss Varnish.

I rarely use glue in areas exposed to skin anymore, but when I do use glue it is cyanoacrylate, usually from Loctite Super Glue Gel Control.

If you have any allergies or concerns, please message me to discuss how I can meet your needs!

Are clay earrings heavy?

While big hoops are obviously heavier than small studs, I do try to make my bigger earrings thinner and therefore lighter. Most of my large dangles are </=5g (the weight of a nickel).

If you have stretched earlobes or lengthened holes from years of heavy earrings, please be sure to select the special backs add-on at checkout!

How do I order something?

You can head to my shop to see what is currently available.

If you see something on my Instagram page or an item that is sold out here -OR- if you have a custom design in mind, you can message me to discuss a custom order!

Can you do clip ons earrings for unpierced ears?

Yes! With the exception of micro studs, almost all of my earrings can be made with hypoallergenic clip on backs instead of standard surgical posts. Please put a comment at checkout that you want clip ons. Thank you!

How long will it take an order to arrive?

Most items are custom made at the time of your order. Therefore it can take up to 1-3 weeks to be completed, depending on the complexity/quantity of your order. I appreciate your patience as I work to craft quality jewelry and art for you! You'll receive email updates with tracking once your item is ready.

Where/how do you ship?

I offer shipping for $5 in the US through the US Postal Service. Domestic shipping only at this time.

Do you offer returns or exchanges?

Due to the customized nature of my work, I do not offer returns or exchanges. I do want you to love your items and get to use them though, so please email me at christinadunbarclay@gmail.com if you have any issues or concerns!

These are handmade items, how durable are they?

Polymer clay is incredibly durable! It's recommended to take them off when getting wet (especially in chlorinated pools!) and when sleeping, but I've also seen these babies go through laundry cycles (#momlife) with no issues.

I am also meticulous in attention to detail and in my assembly of pieces. Many clay jewelry makers use glue alone to attach backs, whereas I reinforce my backs with clay to reduce risk of them coming off!

On the off chance something breaks or comes disconnected, I offer complimentary repairs. Just email me at christinadunbarclay@gmail.com and I'll send you a shipping label!

Do you offer any classes or events?

I don't currently have any classes or events planned, but I'm open to the idea! Please email me at christinadunbarclay@gmail.com to chat!
